Alright, how about Dragon Age 2 is to DA:Origins what Spider is to Solitaire? Plenty of gameplay but still the same deck of cards....Expansion pack certainly isn't the right term, I agree with you there, but I think that the financial gap between DLC and new release needs a happy medium for games like DA2--not necessarily a bad game but bad at $60

I reluctantly (verrrrry reluctantly) concede the point that DA2 was Not Very Good, and that the people behind it were discussing it in misleading, if not outright lying, ways. And in terms of value per dollar, it's not up there with Skyrim, (but surely it matches the thrills of, say, Rapala Fishing Frenzy 2009, which had a comparable original price tag yes, videogame pricing is broken). At the same time, "expansion pack" seems a bit harsh. I think once you hit the point of over 40 hours of gameplay, repetitive or not, you're beyond "expansion."
Good quotation hunting, though. I don't think Laidlaw realizes that what he's saying isn't a good thing.

Favourite snippets: "as revolutionary as the addition of spider to solitaire" and "but I have beaten every Angry Birds expansion, like four times".

These are hilarious in contrast to appropriately dated phrasing and character names which set the overall tone of retro goodness. High fives, Mr. Wilcox.
